MLAs hold joint meet over kabrastan issue

 VASCO

Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Sunday had a joint meeting with the Railways and Muslim community leaders over the kabrastan issue.

Several Muslim leaders in the past approached Godinho and Salkar over fears that the railway double tracking works in Vasco could damage the graves.

Speaking to the media after a joint meeting, Mauvin Godinho said that they had worked out a practical solution to execute work without damaging graves.

"We have come to a solution that is accepted by everybody and we have also decided that the extra land of 10 metres alongside the tracks will not be given for double tracking and Railways will work in its boundary to safeguard the kabrastan," said Godinho.

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said that development will be taken without hurting any religious sentiments.

"I will also move a note to the government to declare that the land in question is already allocated to the kabrastan and more land cannot be encroached by Railways so that the sentiments of the people are not hurt and there is no damage caused to the kabrastan that is next to the existing railway tracks," said Salkar.
