MARGAO
Margao Municipal Council’s hectic activity at Sonsodo before the scheduled hearing in the High Court has not brought good news for the sausage makers and pork sellers from the Davondem area of the city.
For, the Margao Municipal Council has not collected the waste generated by the pork sellers since the last four days, forcing the sellers to dispose of the waste in pits.
Monday saw councillor Johnny Crasto taking up cudgels for the beleaguered pork sellers from Davodem since the civic body has failed to collect the waste during the slaughter of pigs.
The councillor drew attention of the CO Gaurish Sankhwalkar to the failure of the civic body in collecting the waste.
“The Chief Officer has sought two days time to find out a solution to the issue. He informed me that he would figure out why the waste has not been collected and whether it has anything to do with the daily transportation of Margao waste to the Saligao plant,” he said.
Crasto pointed out that the pork sellers are ready to support any mechanism set up by the civic body to lift the waste, in the interest of the public.
Fears have been raised in certain quarters that a delay in lifting the pig slaughter waste may lead to further problems for the MMC.
