MMC cracks whip against encroachments
the goan I networkrnMARGAOrnThe Margao Municipal Council on Friday cracked a whip against encroachments on goods displayed outside shops and business establishments along the Borda road.rnThe seized goods were later released by the Municipality with an undertaking by the shop owners that the Municipality will not be rnresponsible for any loss of goods seized in the future. Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai further directed rnthe Municipal officials to ensure that the goods are released after levying fine of Rs 5,000 on each of the shop owners.rnThe crack down by the Municipality came following complaints by local residents that the passages of the buildings in questions have been encroached upon by the business establishments right under the nose of civic officials.rnThe MMC Chairperson later told the media that though the goods have been returned back to the owners, this is the first time that the Municipality has sought an undertaking from the owners that their goods will not be returned back if they rnare seized again by the civic body. rn“The Municipality will not be responsible for any loss of the goods in the event they are seized again in future operations,” Babita said.
