Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) will soon have a permanent structure in the open space available at MMC building. The open space at the back side of the building was usually used for the celebrations of festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Christmas.
MMC also plans to apply PWD rates for the agreements with Indian Oil Corporations limited for a fresh agreement to recover the rent. MMC also resolved to extend the services of Administrative and financial advisor T K Pawase and fix his salary at Rs 30,000.
MMC Councillor Saifullah Khan also said that MMC will also allot space for a business to handicapped persons. Khan said that MMC must ensure space is alloted for several handicapped persons so that their families could be taken care of “MMC Councillor Krishna Salkar had put a point that NRB group had put up a proposal that MMC should have a permanent shed at the open space available in the MMC building. MMC uses this open space for celebrating Ganesh festival by putting up a pandal and also puts up crib during Christmas.”
“We usually hire pandal and other equipment on hire and Salkar said that MMC should have a permanent structure at this open space with sheets on top. Salkar said that he had requested Industrialist and Philanthropist Narayan Bandekar of NRB group for assistance and we have today resolved to have this permanent structure in the open space.”

“We had signed an agreement with IOCL in 2009 on mutual understanding which expired in 2012 but MMC did not make any further agreements. We have decide that we will make a fresh agreement with the rates as fixed by PWD at around 64.25 Rs and file an agreement with the company 2012 onwards till date and recover the rest
amount. We have resolved on this front and we will send this to DMA for approvals. With this rate in 2012 and considering ten percent increment, we will arrive at Rs 125 per square mtrs and we will receive around 9.5 crores”added Gaonkar.
Dept of Posts to release special covers for MMC Centenary celebrations
VASCO : MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes on Friday informed that the post department had informed MMC and put forth a proposal to issue special covers on the occasion of the centenary celebrations.
“The postal department usually releases special covers on special occasions and since we celebrated centenary celebrations recently, they had put forth a proposal of releasing special covers. I thought this was a fit case to agree to the proposal. The special covers released on this occasion will have photos of this MMC building and other pictures,” said Fernandes.
