Mindful to public concerns over damaged and missing gutter slabs along Swatantra Path in Vasco, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has directed his staff to attend to the problem before the Damodar Bhajani Saptah.

Speaking to The Goan, Fernandes confirmed having received complaints about the damaged and missing gutter slabs.

“I have been informed of the situation. While it becomes a parking hazard, it also poses a danger to pedestrians. The Damodar Bhajani Saptah attracts people from all over Goa and I have directed the municipal engineer to immediately take up the matter. Work to restore the gutter slabs will be completed before the Damodar Bhajani Saptah,” assured Fernandes.

It may be recalled that Vasco Councillor Krishna Daji Salkar and a group of residents have requested the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) to immediately replace the damaged gutter slabs along the Swatantra Path before the Damodar Bhajani Saptah.

City Councillor Krishna Daji Salkar said the damaged slabs had caused severe difficulties for motorists and pedestrians alike.

“This is a dangerous situation and motorists have complained that tyres of vehicles have frequently gone into the open gutters. I have also been informed that pedestrians could risk serious injuries if they accidentally step to the open gutters,” said Salkar.

“I have apprised the MMC chief officer about the situation, especially since the Damodar Bhajani Saptah is fast approaching and the chief officer has assured to take up work on the gutter slabs,” he added.
