MMC to vacate beef traders

The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday decided to immediately vacate the beef traders and demolish the old and dilapidated structure housing them in a special council meeting on Thursday.

The council also decided to temporarily relocate the beef and pork traders to conduct their business.   
MMC, Chairperson, Rohan Kavlekar informed the council that some of the beef and pork traders had voluntarily decided to keep their business shut until the new temporary structure was put in place.   
“Fabrication work on the temporary structure has already started. It may take another eight to ten days for the structure to be ready,” Kavlekar said.  He said in the meanwhile another temporary stall has been allotted to traders to carry on with their business.   
“The traders have decided to rotate the space among themselves for the intermediary period until they are relocated in the temporary structure,” the chairperson said.   
Former chairperson, Sandip Falari and Sudhir Kandolkar spoke at the council meeting.
