MARGAO
Where’s the Margao traffic van that had come in handy for the traffic police to reign in on haphazard parking in the commercial capital?
Well, the vehicle towing van, owned by the Margao Municipal Council, is literally buried under a heap of waste and garbage at Sonsodo.
Even as Margao MLA Digambar Kamat inaugurated the coconut shredding machine at Sonsodo, which is expected to handle the increasing amount of coconut waste in the commercial capital, the Chairman of the Margao Municipal Sanitation Committee, Councillor Camilo Barretto, slammed the Margao Municipal administration for the situation.
Demanding to know why the vehicle towing van owned by the Margao Municipal Council is abandoned at Sonsodo, Barretto criticised the Civic body for dumping waste over the vehicle. “The dumping of waste has almost buried the traffic towing van. The van had in the past helped to keep traffic violators at bay, especially those parking in unauthorised spots in the city,” he said.
He has demanded to know why the Civic body has abandoned the towing van at Sonsodo and not condemned the situation if the vehicle cannot be brought onto the roads.
