PANAJI: The monsoons are here but the rain is not. On Thursday, the Meteorological Department announced that the monsoons have arrived in South Goa with the northern limit of the monsoon lying at Mormugao.
On the same day, Panaji recorded a paltry rainfall of 6mm with a record deficit of 54mm despite the Met department warning against heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places in Goa. The monsoon is expected to cover the whole state of Goa in the next 24 hours.
According to the Met Department, the maximum intensity of rainfall is expected from 8th to 10th June 2018 with heavy to very heavy spells across North and South Goa with “Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at few places over North and South Goa districts of the state. “In view of intense rainfall forecast, people are advised to abstain from outdoor activities as much as possible during the period and also watch for weather updates from Meteorological Centre, Goa,” the advisory states.
