Mormugao BJP clears garbage, says Oppn is all talk & no work

VASCO
Facing growing flak amid the ongoing strike by workers of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) and accumulating garbage in the city, several BJP karyakartas along with outgoing BJP-backed councillors on Saturday began clearing roadside garbage in Mormugao Constituency using JCBs and trucks.

While picking up the garbage, the outgoing BJP councillors seized the opportunity to hit out at Congress for mere talk and no work by being active only on social media and not on the field.

Extending support to the striking MMC workers, the BJP Karyakartas assured people of Mormugao constituency that all roadside garbage would be cleared using infrastructure provided by Urban Development Minister Milind Naik so that people are not inconvenienced.

Outgoing MMC Councillor Murari Bandekar expressed confidence that the issue of the striking MMC workers would be resolved.

“We stand by the MMC workers but in their absence, garbage seems to be piling up and even flowing on roads. People are being inconvenienced and we have been getting calls. We decided to clear the garbage ourselves.”

“The people clearing garbage are not labourers but BJP Karyakartas who are active on the field unlike the opposition that survive on press conferences and on social media. The opposition is only about talk but none of them has done anything for people in times of need.”

“Milind Naik had begun a Swacchata Abhiyan since October 2 where we clean wards every Sunday and this work is just a continuation of the initiative,” said Bandekar.

Outgoing councillor Leo Rodrigues said the drive would be for Mormugao constituency but may be extended to other areas if required.

“There are some leaders from other areas of the taluka who are appealing to clear the garbage issue but it is sad that they themselves are doing nothing about it despite being in power and having the capacity to clear the garbage,” said Rodrigues.

Meanwhile, BJP Karyakarta Ramachandra Kamat said people must elect leaders in the civic polls who reside in wards and can understand the problem of residents, instead of allowing people from distant locations to contest elections in the wards.
