Members of Morombi-O-Grande tenants association who turned up for the polls to elect the new managing committee and office-bearers of the association had to return home disappointed as the polls were adjourned due to lack of quorum.
Only 35 of the 329 members turned up and among the 35 members included 6 proxy voters.
Tiswadi Mamlatdar representative Kedar Bhandari informed the members that since the required quorum of 50 per cent is not formed, the polls are adjourned to October 11 at 10.30 am in the Merces VP hall.
However, the members present protested the decision by stating that the adjournment had already happened on February 2 and hence, the polls should be held today (Thursday).
However, Bhandari informed that it is a fresh poll process and not a continuation of the earlier polls.
“Therefore the polls are adjourned as the required quorum is not formed and the same will be held on October 11,” he informed.
Initially, the polls were scheduled to be held on February 2 this year. However, that time, too due to lack of quorum, the same was adjourned to February 12.
But before the polls could be held, the same was postponed on the plea that the voters' list was not updated.
The matter then had reached the High Court which issued directions to hold the elections by observing that once the election process has already been announced, and being at an advanced stage, the elections cannot be interrupted.
