The ordeal of vehicle owners, anxious to get the High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) installed at the RTO Arlem office seemed far from over, even as the Transport authorities have called upon the Real Mazon agency to open additional counters at the office to streamline the ongoing exercise.
A large number of vehicle owners, who were called on Thursday for the installation of the HSRP, had to return home disappointed after they were told to come with their vehicles only on October 31. Agitated vehicle owners wanted to raise the issue with the agency supervisors, but they could not find anyone around, leaving them with no option than to return home disappointed. An owner told The Goan that they have lost so much time, first to pay the fees and obtain a token and today to come for the installation, which did not take place.
Meanwhile, Assistant Director of Transport, Prakash Kholkar informed that the RTO office has already told the supervisors of Real Mazon to provide an additional four counters for collection of cash at Arlem.
It has been further decided that the cash counters, which are presently located on the first floor of the RTO building, will now be shifted to the location where the fitment is carried out for the benefit of the senior citizens and the physically handicap.
Kholkar further informed that separate counters for HSRP fitment will be set up for Margao and Quepem based vehicles.
While saying that the agency has been asked to provide online payment facility, Kholkar, however, clarified that the online payment facility will be an additional facility in addition to the collection of cash at the proposed four counters at Arlem.
He pointed out that the agency has been told that registered vehicle owners, owning more than one vehicle, may be allowed to make payment at one time for the additional vehicles owned by him.
Though people had demanded that the agency should fit minimum 400 HSRP plates in a day, the RTO official has told the agency to install minimum 300 numbers a day.
