Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) officials on Tuesday said MPT would undertake work on the new fishing jetty in around five
months.
MPT Chief Engineer Incharge Prem Kumar said though Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study on the project was ready, the project awaited CRZ permissions and environmental clearance before work could begin.
“We had a public hearing and finalisation of EIA report has been done. Next is CRZ permission which we have already submitted to the GCZMA,” said Kumar.
“After CRZ, the next step will be formal environmental clearance from MOEFF. Once we get all this, we are ready to go ahead with the jetty.”
Kumar said MPT was unable to even take up temporary measures, because CRZ permissions were needed even for temporary works.
“We have heard that the State has to submit a coastal zone management plan and they say it will happen in the next two months. We feel we can get CRZ clearance in next 3 months and environmental clearance after that. If all goes well, five months is the time we are looking for the clearances before we can go ahead with the fishing jetty project,” said Kumar.
