The Kadamba Transport Corporation has said they would resume their day services to Maharashtra no sooner they are convinced about the safety of their buses in view of a strike by the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation employees demanding better wages.
"If we can't get police protection for our buses there is no question of us resuming the services. We are monitoring the situation. No sooner the situation improves we will release the buses," KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida told The Goan.
He added that the Corporation was enduring a loss of `1.70 lakh a day on account of the Maharashtra strike.
Carlos was forced to defend his decision after the KTC was criticised for being extra cautious in holding their buses back especially since the ST employees strike has been entirely peaceful and not accompanied by the street
violence that usually accompanies a bandh.
On the contrary the KTC could have kept its buses running which could have brought relief to customers within Maharashtra who were inconvenienced on account of the ST strike. KTC's night bus services to Mumbai, Pune and Shirdi have continued unaffected as have private bus services to Mumbai.
KTC has kept back as many as 14 bus trips in fear that their buses will be attacked. The employees of the MSRTC have gone on an indefinite strike demanding implementation of 7th pay commission and interim hike of 25 per cent till the recommendations are implemented.
