The Central Registrar of Co-operative Societies is reported to have accepted the resignations of the Board of Directors at the Mapusa Urban Cooperative Bank.
Stating this, the bank’s chairman Gurudas Naterkar said the Board of Directors in a meeting on Tuesday has decided to hold elections as early as possible.
“We have sent copies of registration accepted by Central Registrar of Co-operative Societies to the State Registrar of Cooperative Societies and the Central Agriculture Ministry. We will accordingly inform the Reserve Bank regarding election of the new board of directors. We will appeal to the RBI to release money to hold election and also to give payment to our workers,” Natekar told reporters in the presence of Ramakant Khalap.
Said Khalap: “The Central government has released Rs 3 lack crore to save nationalized banks and we appeal to the State government to save the cooperative sector in the State by providing working capital.”
“If the Goa government wishes, it can save our bank in the interest of shareholders, customers and workers. We are in touch with like-minded cooperative banks to merge with our bank.”
“As the Board of Directors have resigned, they will be not in a position to take
any decision and everything will left to new board of directors. In the meanwhile, arrangements will be done to handle day-to-day functioning of the bank,” Khalap added.
