MUCB: CM urged to expedite liquidator’s appointment

MUCB: CM urged to expedite liquidator’s appointment

MARGAO
The Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank Officers’ Association has urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to be sensitive to the peoples’ problems and needs by expediting the appointment of the liquidator for the Bank without any further delay.

MUCBOA President Prasanna Utagi pointed out that the staff members of The Madgaum Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd have not been paid the salary for the month of July 2021. He wondered how they are expected to provide the service without wages.

“The staff members and their family are already under great stress for variety of reasons including the prospects thrown into the morass of unemployed lot. Many depositors are desperately waiting to get back their seized earned money to meet their serious requirement of medical treatment, etc. Recently the Government of India passed a bill in the Parliament with guarantee to refund the depositors upto Rs 5 lakh deposits within 9 days of liquidation of the Bank,” he said.

Utagi questioned: What happens to assurances given by the Finance Minister if such delay takes place even just for the appointment of a liquidator by the State Government of Goa.

He pointed out that the Reserve Bank of India cancelled the Banking Licence of The Madgaum Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd, Margao on 29 July 2021 and directed the office of the Registrar of Co-operative Societies to appoint a liquidator to carry out the due process of law for winding up the bank and settle the claims of all the stakeholders.

“Over 10 days have lapsed with no sign of appointment of the liquidator from the concerned authorities of the Government of Goa. It has caused lot of resentment among the depositors, shareholders and the staff,” he said.

The President of MUCBOA & MUCBEU has written letters to the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, to the Chief Minister and Co-operation Minister with a request to expedite the appointment of the liquidator for MUCB.
