Residents of Mungul on Tuesday complained to the Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai over the ongoing works in respect of the construction of the western bypass on stilts at the Colva-Margao road.
They pointed out that the National Highway is constructing a column of the bypass at the mouth of the culvert which helps to drain water during the monsoons. They expressed their fears that the rainwater will now flow through the culvert in view of the construction of the concrete column right at its mouth.
The Fatorda MLA discussed the matter with PWD, NH Executive Engineer Dattaparasad Kamat and the contractor to find out an amicable solution. While sharing the concern raised by the residents led by Margao municipal ward councillor Francis Joanes, Sardesai sought to know whether the column can be shifted by a metre or two away from the culvert.
Since the western bypass work is being monitored by the High Court and given that the contractor has started the work of piling the column, the NH official suggested building a culvert adjoining the existing one.
PWD Assistant Engineer, Roads Armstrong said an additional culvert built on the road will help take care of the rainwater drainage.
