The demolition of the illegally erected “Murgao Cha Raja” shed at Sada has been completed, but the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) is yet to take possession of the site, the civic body informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday.
The MMC Chief Officer told the Division Bench of Justice Valmiki Menezes and Justice Amit Jamsandekar that only barricading the site remained. However, officials who visited the site on October 7 to erect barricades were allegedly assaulted by a mob gathered there. An FIR was subsequently registered, and the council also wrote to the Collector regarding the incident.
The Bench asked the authorities to identify the alleged attackers. The MMC submitted that three persons had been named in the FIR.
When the MMC stated that its officials had only intended to erect barricades, the Bench observed that the persons concerned were the same petitioners whose plea regarding the shed had been dismissed earlier.
The Chief Officer was directed to file an affidavit detailing the developments by October 21, when the matter will be taken up for further hearing.
Last week, the MMC informed the court that a substantial portion of the shed had been demolished and sought two days to complete the work.
The Bench had directed the civic body to submit a further report on October 12, warning the MMC Chief Officer of contempt proceedings if the demolition was not completed within 48 hours.
