The Department of Konkani at Shree Mallikarjun College in Delem-Canacona in collaboration with Konkani Adhyan Peeta, University of Mangalore and Ashawadi Prakashan, Mumbai will organise a one-day national seminar on ‘Tribal Culture Konkani language: Talks and tunes’ on October 4.
The objective of this seminar is to showcase tribal culture and celebrate its unique richness. The session will comprise discussions and dialogues on various topics covering different aspects of lives of tribals and their struggles and lifestyle.
The seminar will be inaugurated by Prof P Subrahmanya Yedapadithaya, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, while Basti Vaman Shenoy, founder and president of Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Mangalore will be the chief guest and R A Mazalkar, chairman of Shree Dyan Prabhodini Mandal will preside over the function.
The inaugural ceremony will include tribal folk dance ‘Kunbi Dhalo’ by people from Gaondongrem, Cotigao and ‘Siddhi Damam’ from Mundgod-Karnataka.
The first session on ‘Reflection of Adhivasi Life in Art and Culture’ will be chaired by Dr Uday Gaunker, Dy Director of Education-South and the resource persons will be Kanta Gaude, Dr B Devadasa Pai, Ajit Paiguinkar and Devidas Gaonkar.
The second session will begin with a folk dance presentation ‘Ghunmat Intrumez’ from Quepem and Talgadi by Indreshwar Club Gaondogrem. The session on ‘Adhivasi Life, Culture & Future of Literature’ will be chaired by Dr Pandurang Phal Desai and the resource persons are Valley Quadros, Kamlakar Mhalshi, Adv. Joao Fernandes and Ramnath Gavde.
Dr Nandakumar Kamat will be chief guest at the valedictory session, while others to be present include Dr B Devadasa Pai, coordinator of PG Studies in Konkani Mangalore University, K B Gaonkar (President of Dnyan Prabhodini Mandal), Dr Manoj Kamat (Principal of Shree Mlllikarjun College), Dr F M Nadaf (Vice-Principal of Shree Mallikarjun College).
