Naval officer held for causing death

CANACONA: Canacona Police on Tuesday arrested the a naval officer from Haryana, in connection with the road accident that killed a motorcycle rider at Partagal on Sunday.

According to Canacona Police, Indrajeet Singh Tanwar, a naval officer reportedly posted at Sea Bird Karwar, was arrested under Sections 279, 304 (a) IPC and later released on a local surety. Police said a panchanama at the accident spot had revealed that the car had strayed on the right hand side of the road. Tyre marks were clearly visible at the site, indicating that the car was being driven on the wrong side at the turn, while the Harley Davidson motorcycle (GA-08-Y-3789), driven by Kapil Shet of Aquem, was proceeding down the slope and was negotiating the turn at Partagal.

Canacona PSI Prashal Dessai also ruled out the theory that the Harley Davidson motorcycle had caught fire prior to the mishap, causing the rider to lose control of the vehicle.

“The bike probably caught fire due to the impact after the rider was thrown down and it fell on the side of the road,” said PSI Dessai.
