The Navelim Panchayat has resolved to oppose the proposed Kabrastan at Sirvodem.
After deliberating on the controversial issue, the Panchayat has resolved to lodge its objections to the government proposal.
Navelim deputy sarpanch Paul Pereira informed that that the panchayat deliberated on the issue at the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Wilma D’silva.
He said the panchayat members were of the strong opinion that the filling up of the low lying land along the River Sal will spell ecological disaster in the area.
Members pointed out that the paddy fields which are sought to be acquired for the proposed Kabrastan falls in Navelim revenue village.
