Navelim, Telaulim locals once again halt western bypass work in its tracks

Making a plea to all those who believe in Goemkarponn to join the ongoing movement, Navelim and Telaulim villagers again stopped work on the western bypass on Tuesday as the villagers sent a message loud and clear to the Parrikar government to either build the bypass on stilts or face the wrath of the people.

People of Benaulim, Agassaim and Canacona also joined the agitation, raising apprehensions of the massive highway being constructed by the government from South to North of the state.
While lamenting that none of the MLAs, including TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai who swore by Goemkarponn, have come to the rescue of the villagers who have been demanding a bypass on stilts, they also reminded Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro to join the battle alongside the villagers.
A local George Barretto said though a group of villagers had called on Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar along with Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro on Monday evening, confusion and doubt still prevail over the work on the bypass.
“People of Goa know who Parrikar is. Though he has assured to stop the work till March 30, buses brought policemen to Navelim on Tuesday morning to give protection to the contractor. We do not know whether the work will be kept on hold or not. One thing is clear, the people will not allow work on the bypass without making provision for a flyover,” George said.
Inacio Vaz told the media that the government has no right to go for another bypass when the eastern bypass is already in place.
