Navy trying to encroach on State powers: Vijai

Goa Forward party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai on Thursday criticised the navy’s proposal to seek its NOC for any development within a 20-km radius of the flying zone.

Stating that such a proposal was a bid to encroach on the State’s powers, Sardesai said the government must reject the navy’s proposal immediately.

“The proposal on 20-km radius of flying zone had come during my tenure as TCP Minister. As TCP minister, I had met and pursued the matter with naval authorities in Goa and top Naval brass in Delhi to impress upon them that the proposal was not feasible. The proposal was subsequently withdrawn,” said Sardesai.

“Under the current situation, it would be easier for the TCP minister to get this order withdrawn because Union Minister of State for Defence is our North Goa MP Shripad Naik. The TCP minister must go forward and take the initiative to withdraw this order with immediate effect by seeking the MOS’s help, said Sardesai.

“The order will block all development and cause chaos in Goa,” he added.

The Fatorda MLA took a dig at the State government, stating that huge investments being pushed through events like ‘Vibrant Goa’ could be in doubt, if the navy’s proposal is implemented as a radius of 20-km flying zone could go as far as Saligao.

“Everyone will have to approach the Navy before getting any development in their areas and it will be a difficult situation. The CM talks about single window and giving permission to all units within 15-30 days, but he has no control over the Navy. This single window system will fall flat if the Navy’s proposal is not rejected,” said Sardesai.

“As president of Goa Forward Party, I condemn these directives and I feel it is all a way to encroach on the state’s powers. The government must take immediate steps to reject the navy’s proposal,” said Sardesai.
