PERNEM
After several delays, the Pernem bus stand which was hastily inaugurated in December 2016 despite being incomplete will finally be thrown open to the public on Independence Day.
Tourism Minister Manohar (Babu) Ajgaonkar said the new Pernem bus stand would be opened to the public on August 15 at 5 pm and invited people to attend the opening ceremony.
Ajgaonkar was speaking to reporters after inspecting the completed bus stand in the presence of PMC Chairperson Shraddha Mashelkar, Vice Chairperson Prashant Gadekar, GSIDC officials, KTC, transport department and councillors.
The previous BJP government had constructed the bus stand at a cost of Rs 32 crore through the GSIDC and had inaugurated the complex in December 2016. However, the bus stand could not be made operational as it was still incomplete and approvals were needed for the project.
When Ajgaonkar was elected the Pernem MLA in 2017, he expedited the process to complete the bus stand.
After securing necessary approvals from departments concerned, the bus stand is now set for operations on August 15.
Others present along with the minister included PMC councillors Deepak Mandrekar, Siddhesh Pednekar, Usha Nagvekar and Suvidha Teli, Varkhand Sarpanch Pradeep Kambli, Torsem Sarpanch Baban D’Souza, Poraskade Sarpanch Rosh Fernandes, Korgaon Panch Abdul Naik, former PMC chairperson Dr Vasudev Deshprabhu, GSIDC Manager Kothawale, Assistant Engineer Gurudas Naik, KTC Managing Director Derrick Pereira Neto and KTC General Manager Sanjay Ghate.
