The Goa University and College Teachers Association (UCTAG) has expressed their complete displeasure for ignoring them while framing syllabus and other related decisions on implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at the higher education level.
In a letter to the Director of Higher Education, UCTAG president Anthony Rodrigues has pointed out that crucial suggestions or feedback from stakeholders like teaching fraternity, students, and industries were not taken while drafting the syllabus, which was done in a hurried manner.
“The syllabus seems to have been done in a hurried, haphazard manner. Senior faculty were not consulted, and inclusive inputs were not sought. Faculty are unanimous that NEP 2020 syllabus was done in a hasty, hurried and harried manner, with bullying from the State authorities to get the job done without concern for finer details,” the UCTAF said.
The Association alleged that the members of Board of Studies (BoS) of the Goa University were under intense pressure to prepare the syllabus. “But members did deliver to the absolute best of their ability,” they said.
“The entire NEP 2020 syllabus is meaningless in its mandate to be student friendly, flexible, and orientated towards skilling. Students have other talents and abilities in which they may have already excelled before seeking admission to undergraduate courses,” the association said.
UCTAF pointed out that the NEP syllabus was expected to be national but the very same aspect has been violated, which means student mobility, which was a key offering of the NEP 2020, has been affected.
The Association said that Colleges / Faculty have numerous questions pertaining to the syllabus, four-year degree courses, internship, credit scores, etc.
