While raids by National Investigative agencies (NIA) on Popular Front of India (PFI) offices have been part of a nationwide exercise across many states, one such raid in the housing board area of Baina has left everyone shocked in disbelief.
Local Municipal Councillor Ramchandra Kamat, who is also a neighbour, said the family was good and living in the area some years ago but the raid has now disclosed that the family allegedly had ties with the PFI.
“As I was leaving the house, I was shocked to see a large police force in the colony and I realised that the raid was being carried out by the NIA. When I enquired further, I realised that the raid was being carried out at a flat in our colony,” said Kamat.
“We then realised that our neighbour had become a member of PFI and it was shocking because he has grown up as a kid right in front of our eyes. His family was a good family and stopped living here in the last 10-15 years. We realise that he is living in Bangalore but the NIA national raid of this kind has shocked us,” said Kamat.
“I know their family personally and they have had a good relationship with everyone and we are unsure how he joined the PFI.”
“Police are still carrying out some investigation and the entire locality is shaken since the NIA raid which occurred at around 3 am on Thursday,” said Kamat.
