Stating that the new airport parking lot would be ready before the next tourist season to accommodate around 15 buses, 200 cars and 200 two-wheelers, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Thursday said the multi-level car park at the airport would also be inaugurated within two months.
Godinho was speaking after launching work on a parking lot of the airport near the Grade Separator in Shantinagar in the presence of Airport Director Gagan Malik and others.
"A parking lot is the need of the hour and all stakeholders are aware of this as well. This new parking lot will be ready before the next tourist season and will accommodate around 15 buses, 200 cars and 200 two-wheelers. The multi-level car parking at the airport also will be inaugurated within the next two months," said Godinho.
Godinho stated that the airport director had requested for additional space, if possible, to enhance the parking facilities.
"There is a private property between the railway land and highway and we are making efforts to try and give it to the airport. If this happens, all roadside parking will be a thing of the past," said Godinho.
Godinho also said the beautification work around the airport, which was held up due to the pandemic, would be launched soon.
"I have been in discussion with various parties for beautification around the airport, but the works were held up due to the pandemic. Even the airport authority was supposed to spend the money under CSR but they too are struggling amid the pandemic and we will receive funds in March. The beautification work will begin soon and most of these works will be completed by December," said Godinho.
Facilities for drivers, others at parking lot: Airport Director
VASCO: Dabolim Airport Director Gagan Malik said the parking lot will be developed on around 1.25 acres of land and will offer facilities for drivers and other people.
“We will have restrooms for drivers, left luggage rooms and 586 sq metres of land will be developed as a green belt so that people can get comfortable while being in the parking lot," said Malik.
