The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) will soon get a new building with three strong rooms to store question papers with automatic access controls. The GSIDC has started the construction work of the state-of-the-art building for the GBSHSE for which formal foundation laying ceremony will be held on February 10.
The present board building built in 1992-92 is in bad condition so government has decided to build a new building by spending around Rs 41 crore. The three storeys building which will be built in a 10,000 square metre area is expected to be completed in one-and-half year span.
The new building will also have a 2 IT lab, 2 store rooms, library and multi purpose hall. The design of building is such that the ample sunlight will illuminate the premises. It may be recalled that the GBSHSE which was formed in 1975 started functioning in 1977 from an old SCERT building at Porvorim. It was during the tenure of Suresh Amonkar as GBSHSE chairman, the present land for Board was acquired and the building was constructed in 1992-93.
As the existing building was in bad condition and the GBSHSE span of work has also increased for last 10 years, the discussion on whether to build a new building or repair the existing building was going on. Finally, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar took a call to construct a new building. The new building premises has proposed parking areas consisting parking spaces for 78 four-wheelers and 48 two-wheelers. It has office spaces for different departments like administration, accounts, academic section, certificate cell, SSC and HSSC exam section, etc.
It will also includes offices for department heads including chairman and the secretary. The building will have 10 meeting rooms having capacity of 14 people and 2 meeting rooms for 24 people each and conference room for 100 people. It will also have recreation room, tiffin room for staff, canteen and dining area with an attached kitchen.
