In a bid to manage the logistics in the heavy movement port town of Vasco, the State government has set up a ‘City Logistics Committee’ which will act as a core institutional mechanism to prepare a city logistics plan.
The panel, according to the notification issued by Under Secretary (Industries) Amalia Pinto, will be headed by the Director of Industries and is tasked with preparing the plan which will take care of freight corridors and flow patterns in the port town.
The plan drawn will also take into account the city’s key freight-generating hubs, types of vehicles which will move in the city including the frequency of movement, logistics demand zones and congestion hotspots.
Besides the industries director, the panel will also include his deputy, the Mormugao Municipal Council chief officer, a TCP department and PWD representative, an official of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) and one official each drawn from the Transport Department, Goa Police’s Traffic Cell and Mormugao Planning and Development Authority.
Additionally, representatives of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Assocham, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Goa Small Industries Association besides Vasco based civil society organisations like Goa Bagayatdar Sahakari Kharedi, the Zuari Fisherman Marketing Co-op. Society Ltd, and Vasco Fishing Boat Owners Marketing Co-operative Society Ltd.are also included in the panel.
The Committee will be responsible to ensure co-ordinated, inclusive, and participatory decision making from key government departments, industry, and civil society.to ensure operational efficiency, road safety, emission reduction.
Once the CLAP is prepared, implementation and regular review will also be the committee’s responsibility, the notification said.
