VASCO: New sluice gates for Pale-Tollem at Velsao were recently installed for the benefit of farmers from Velsao.
The sluice gates were installed in the presence of Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, Velsao Church Parish Priest Fr Lawrence Rodrigues, members of Pale Tolem Xetkaranchem Association and the farmers.
Fr Rodrigues blessed the farmers and the ongoing work. Executive members of Pale Tolem Xetkaranchem Association and farmers thanked MLA Saldanha for taking up the work for the benefit of the farmers.
The development work of Tollem Bundh and sluice gate was taken up by the MLA through the WRD last year. The work has been allotted to M/s Unique Constructions. Installation of the new sluice gate is a part of this project, apart from strengthening the protection wall of the Bundh.
"Velsao farmers are going to have the sluice gate system in place, which will be easy to operate and will do away with the earlier method of using mud and wood planks to create Bandharas to stop the water flow for irrigation purpose. This involved a lot of hard work, time and labour for the farmers," said Saldanha.
