In a shocking and a tragic incident, a 27-year-old man Mehboob Shaikh was stabbed to death at New Vaddem on Sunday evening.
According to information, the deceased was a resident of New Vaddem and was helping his family in their furniture business.
Sources added that the deceased Mehboob Shaikh was stabbed in his chest by a 24-year-old man Anthony Fernandes, a taxi driver, who lives in his neighbourhood following a scuffle near the Rashtroli temple at New Vaddem on Sunday afternoon.
"The scuffle led to Mehboob Shaikh being grievously injured after he was stabbed in the chest by Fernandes. Locals immediately shifted the injured Mehboob Shaikh to the Chicalim Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival," said a source.
When contacted, Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh said that the reason for the crime was previous enimity.
" We got a call that the deceased was stabbed in the chest with a knife after a scuffle due to personal enmity for a long time. There was a animosity between the two due to some case that was pending in the court but today in the heat of the moment, they both engaged in a fight. The deceased Mehboob Shaikh hit the accused with a bat and the accused retaliated by stabbing him with a knife causing fatal injuries. We have detained the accused and kept him in police custody and we are carrying out further investigation, " said Shaikh.
Vasco police have registered a case of murder and detained the accused Anthony Fernandes under section 302 IPC. PSI Mayur Sawant is carrying out further investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
