A new-born baby girl was found dead in an open drain culvert at Dhavshire-Tisk, Usgao, on Sunday.
The incident came to light on Sunday afternoon when some women noticed the body while they had gone there to wash clothes.
Ponda Police informed that after they received a call in the afternoon, they rushed to the site and conducted the panchanama. "The baby girl was in the water with her umbilical cord not cut properly. Someone must have abandoned her in the waters," the duty police told The Goan.
PSI Paresh Sinari rushed to the site and conducted the panchanama and removed the deceased from the water.
The open drainage flows from Sainagar and it is about 1 km from the incident spot. Though it was raining heavily in the afternoon at the site, locals had gathered to witness the incident.
Ponda police is further investigating the case.
