Led by its president Jack Fernandes, the Goenkar team consisting of general secretary Vikas Bhagat, John Coutinho, Sandesh Telekar and Shantaji Naik Gaunkar in the presence of Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) members including Chairperson Prathana Naikgaunkar highlighted the efforts they had made over the last year to clean the municipal areas, especially the huge garbage pile at Dumani garbage treatment plant to the chief minister.
The Goenkar team complained to the chief minister that the administrative apathy has been letting them down again and again and the garbage woes crops up within a few days of getting resolved.
“There’s no back up from the administration to maintain the tempo of cleanliness,” the Goenkar team told Parrikar.
According to the Goenkar members, Parrikar after viewing the display of their efforts to keep Canacona clean informed that he needs a couple of months to set things in right perspective and also provided Goenkar with his e-mail ID to keep him abreast of the works undertaken.
Deputy Chairperson Samita Dhuri, Councillors Shyam Dessai, Divakar Pagi, Kishore Shet and Bharati Komarpant were also present.
Jack lauded the councillors for their efforts to maintain cleanliness in the municipality.
Telekar said, “Dumane plant was cleared and cleaned of heaps of garbage and given over to the municipal council at the beginning of tourism season, but due to unfortunate apathy by the civic body, all our efforts have gone
to waste.”
