VASCO
NGO Goa First has on Wednesday written to the Mormugao municipal Council ( MMC ) requesting to shift the two chicken shops permitted to operate in Vasco vegetable market to the chicken market.
A press release issued by Convenor Parshuram Sonurlekar said that the two chicken shops had become an eyesore for many of the pure vegetarians who come to purchase vegetables in the municipal vegetables market.
" Many people hesitate to move in this section of market due to the presence of these chicken shops operating in the vegetables market. The auspicious month of Shravan is approaching which is also the holy month of festivals for Hindu religion and most of Hindus avoid non-vegeterian food.
As these shops are in the middle of vegetable market there is concern among Hindus and they have approached us with the request to remove it permanently. We have brought to the notice of the council that there is a dedicated chicken market and both these shops should be shifted to that market ," says the press note.
"Similarly we had in the past also complained about the hygiene of the chicken shops generating bad odour across the area and MMC had subsequently issued notices to 21 chicken shops including these two shops where in the notice it was stated that these chicken shops waste goes into the gutter which is connected to Arabian Sea," says the press note.
