Residents of Dabolim have slammed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) over the construction of traffic circle at Vales Junction in Dabolim.
Residents feel that once operational, the circle would prove to be a death trap instead of making traffic movement smooth at the junction. They contend that NHAI engineers have faulted in their plans and the circle at the junction will cause more inconvenience as big vehicles like buses and tempos cannot negotiate a turn there in one attempt and have to reverse several times till they can actually cross over to the other side of the road.
Mahesh Bhandari, Youth President of Dabolim Block Congress Committee, said that NHAI had built a circle in an asymmetric manner. “There is a possibility of several fatal accidents at the site. The circle should always be placed centrally. But this circle is one-third on one side and two-third on the other side of the road. This will allow many vehicles to pass on one road while the road on the other side will be blocked while a bus negotiates a turn,” he explained.
“At this circle, three cars can pass on one road while on another road not even a bus can pass. Authorities should check and try and alter the arrangements,” Bhandari added. A resident Kshitij Mugalikar said the authorities should first check if all arrangements, including the flow of traffic, are okay.
