Pernem Police have detained Sajjan Konadkar and eight others for allegedly assaulting advocate Sadanand Vaigankar, who had gone to Oshal Bagh at Dhargal to attend a panchnama regarding illegal electricity supply to unauthorised constructions on Friday.

Advocate Vaigankar had gone to Oshal along with the sarpanch and other government officials to attend the panchnama. During the proceedings, a mob of around eight people allegedly assaulted him severely.

Local resident Nilesh Patekar filed a written complaint with the police in this regard. Upon receiving the complaint, the police immediately detained the suspects and began questioning them.

Accused refutes assault charge

At a press conference on Saturday, Sajjan Konadkar denied allegations that he assaulted Advocate Sadanand Vaigankar. He claimed people passing along the national highway mistook Waygankar for a thief and chased him while he was running away, during which he was assaulted. Konadkar said he had no connection with the incident.

Senior citizen Vaishali Konadkar alleged that Vaigankar grabbed her hand and injured it. She said her gold earrings were also lost during the scuffle.

Pradeep Patekar said the lands in the area were reserved by their ancestors and are now managed by their descendants. He urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and officials to look into the issue and deliver justice.
