State BJP’s alliance partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) on Saturday had a closed door meeting with the newly formed Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) at Porvorim.
The meeting was attended by MGP’s Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar, senior Vice-President Ratnakant Mardolkar, Working President Narayan Sawant and Treasurer Apa Teli, while GSM was represented by Subhash Velingkar, Subhash Dessai and Party President Anand Shirodkar.
Sources informed that though no final decision was taken at the meeting on whether MGP leave BJP and align with GSM in the upcoming assembly polls, MGP is likely to convene a meeting of the central committee headed by its President Deepak Dhavalikar to decide on the same by December 8.
It was learnt that though senior MGP leaders were of the opinion that MGP should align with GSM, they admitted that it was not an easy task to break the alliance with BJP at this juncture as two of their ministers are a part of the BJP-led State Cabinet. Sources were also of the opinion that the central committee members may push Dhavalikar Brothers to break its alliance with BJP.
The GSM has already announced that they have called a crucial meeting of its decision making body on November 30 where final decision on whether to wait for MGP would be taken.
Nonetheless, there are indications that GSM may wait till the family function of Dhavalikars get over.
