It'sfinal. Students of class IX and XI will have no final exam to answerand will be promoted to classes X and XII respectively on basis oftheir average scores of tests held through the academic year.
Thedecision was announced on Friday by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant athis daily press conference.
Sawantwho is also the education minister said a supplementary exam will beconducted only to permit those students who fail to make the passinggrade with their average scores to give it a shot and make up thedeficit.
Studentsare automatically promoted to the next class from Std I to VIII underthe 'no fail' policy and accordingly the education department haddeclared final exams cancelled for these classes a few days after itordered schools closed in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
However,the suspense over when the final exams will be held had lingered onfor students of classes IX and XI with the authorities saying adecision will be taken dependent on the progress of the COVID-19situation.
Studentsof these two classes are excluded from the ambit of the 'no fail'policy and technically their academic year has officially concludedon Friday with Sawant's announcement. Except that, for those weakerstudents who did not do well through the year and fail to make thepromotion cut with their average scores, will have to take asupplementary exam to give being promoted a final shot.
Meanwhile,Sawantsaid some 82 clinical psychologists drafted as 'counselors' in theschool education system will step out and assist distressed migrantlabourers whose lives have got uprooted by the lockdown and are nowlodged in government set up camps.
Sawantsaid an informal training program for these 82 counselors has alreadybegun and is being conducted by the Directorate of Health Services.
10-daynotice for SSC exam schedule
PANAJI:Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday announced that a 10-day clearnotice will be given to students of Class X for their first publicexam leading to the secondary school certificate (SSC) of the GoaEducation Board.
ClassXII students too will be given similar advance notice as to whenthe postponed papers of their interrupted higher secondaryschool certificate (HSSC) examination will be held, Sawant said.
Sawantmeanwhile clarified that the online mock tests for Class X studentsin the science and math subjects will only be a sort of "practicetest" for them.
Theonline 'mock tests' are proposed to be conducted through thehttps://www.embibe.com/mock-test/cbse/10th-cbse-mocktestportal.
TheGoa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has noplans at all to hold its final SSC exam through the online mode, hesaid.
Sawantalso said, to supplement the break in preparation caused by theCOVID-19 disruptions, the education department has facilitatedsubject wise classes online for the Class X students through thewww.liveshaala.comportal.
