Many have thought that after the eight Congress MLAs joined the BJP around six months ago, including Digambar Kamat, Aleixo Sequeira, Sankalp Amonkar and not to mention Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, who is supporting the ruling dispensation, the government may climb down from its stand on the three linear projects or pave the way for the withdraw of the criminal cases foisted against the activists for participating in the historic Chandor agitation.
For, these very leaders had walked alongside thousands of people with candles in their hands to protest against the three linear projects. It’s another matter that these and other leaders, who had participated in the Chandor agitation were spared by the men-in-uniform and targetting only the 10 activists named in the chargesheet.
Social activist and co-convernor of Goyant Kollso Naka, Abhijit Prabhudesai said the activists fighting the criminal cases foisted by the government, have no expectations from the Congress-turned-BJP MLAs or those supporting the government to come to their rescue, saying these people have betrayed their very own people instrumental in sending them to the Goa Legislative Assembly.
“How can we have trust in these very MLAs, who have betrayed their voters and people electing them to the Legislative Assembly. You think by any figment of imagination that the people who have betrayed the people to join the ruling party will come to the rescue of people fighting to save Goa,” Abhijit wondered.
Capt Viriato Fernandes echoed similar sentiments. “These MLAs have gone to the BJP for their selfish interests. You cannot expect them to help the people against whom the very same government, which they have joined hands, have foisted false and fabricated cases.”
