Blame it on the election code, politicos have not found a place in the organization of the official carnival festivities in the commercial capital this year.
Local politicos, including Margao city fathers, however, may be allowed to share the Carnival float parade dais if the election code of conduct does not come into force in the first week of March.
Anticipating that the election code of conduct would come into force anytime in the first week of March, Margao Municipal Chief Officer Siddivinayak Naik has been appointed the Chairman of the Margao Carnival Committee to organize the three-day carnival festivities in Margao and Fatorda.
While Margao Municipal Council engineer Manoj Arsekar has been appointed the secretary of the committee, MMC Accounts and Administration Officer Damodar Yelekar is the treasurer.
A number of government officials and their representatives attended the meeting held in the Margao municipality on Tuesday to constitute the committee.
As usual, Margao will play host to the official carnival float parade in the city on March 2 and sources in the know informed that the panel headed by the MMC Chief Officer will continue to head the committee even in the event the election code of conduct does not come into force by March 1.
Officials, however, pointed out that there may be no problem to allow the city fathers and other politicos to share the dais at the Carnival festivities in the event the election code does not come into force by March 2.
