The health minister on Wednesday announced that he will not grant permission to any private hospital to establish kidney transplant facility till the GMC carries out its first kidney transplant.
"I have approved the file yesterday. I will put a new committee in place and I will not fall prey to pressure. I will not consider registering any hospital for kidney transplant till the GMC carries out its first transplant. I have kept all applications in abeyance," he stated, adding that the state cannot move ahead with 25 to 30 year old technology.
It was informed that dialysis services will soon become available at Mapusa, Navelim, Ponda and Valpoi hospitals.
In addition to this, the government is toying with the idea of outsourcing the kitchens and canteens of GMC. A committee to finalise the tender whereby the kitchen will be outsourced.
