Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Nandadeep Raut on Wednesday afternoon said that there is no question of ruling and opposition panel of councillors when it comes to developmental projects taken up in the city to benefit the public.
Raut was speaking to reporters at a function held to launch the works on pavers in the Non-Mon area of Vasco.
"Rs 23 crore of MMC funds have been transferred to GSUDA for taking up development works like the much-awaited Vasco fish market, MMC building renovation and the Baina powerhouse complex project. These are public projects and will benefit the people of Vasco and as such there must be no issues of ruling and opposition panel of councillors considering the larger interest of the citizens," Raut said.
"Our terms as councillors have almost ended and since we are elected by the people, we have to ensure that we do justice to their mandate as elected representatives by giving them good development in return. It is the best thing we could have taken, and I stand by the decision of transferring the funds to GSUDA for taking up these three key projects. This decision has been taken after consulting all the councillors and these key projects will be taken up soon," he said.
Raut also said that the paving of internal roads in the Non-Mon area was a long pending demand.
"The people of Non-Mon have been long asking for paving of internal roads. Besides being the chairperson I am the councillor of this ward, and this project was initially proposed by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida after I took up the demands of the people with him. This project is being launched today at an estimated cost of Rs 41 lakh and will be completed in a month," said Raut.
