The Congress on Thursday maintained that it would stand by Goemkars as far the fish-testing and taxi issues were concerned.
Congress president Girish Chodankar said that while the party did not want to politicise the fish-testing issue, they would not allow Goans to consume formalin-laced fish.
“Health Minister Vishwajit Rane promised to set up a lab to test fish about a year ago. He’s still looking for the file, and has no idea where it is,” said Chodankar. Even the CM has done nothing after promising to put everything in order in “two days”, he added.
“We waited for two days. We’ve checked the wholesale and retail markets, no FDA officials are conducting tests on fish samples, neither are the two entry points to Goa being checked,” he said. Chodankar also said that the trucks carrying fish that were coming in were not insulated.
“The trucks are not even top-end with the best refrigeration possible,” he said, insisting on carrying on protesting till Goans gets formalin-free fish. Meanwhile, the party asked the CM to give a patient listening to aggrieved taxi drivers who were protesting against the Goa Miles app.
“While the taxi drivers need to embrace technology, the government too needs to keep their ears open, and sit with the taxi drivers to hear their grievances,” said Chodankar.
The Congress said that the taxi drivers who were protesting were trying to tell the government something, and the government shouldn’t by-pass them. “After all, they are our Goans, just as much as Goa Miles drivers are. The government needs to listen to them and not misuse its powers,” he said.
