According to Quepem DySP Sammy Tavares, the body of McLaughlin (28) is likely to be flown to Ireland on Sunday or Monday.
Canacona PI Philimeno Costa added that the police had received a request from the embassy of Ireland and acting on it, granted an NOC to send the body to McLaughlin’s home country.
Police informed that two of her close friends, who have flown down to Goa, have expressed their desire to take her body to her family residing in Buncrana, Co Donegal in Ireland.
Meanwhile, police continued its investigations at the murder site, while media teams were also at the site for news coverage into the rape and murder of McLaughlin.
The site has also turned into a memorial, with a large number of flowers, wreaths and candles placed by foreign tourists and locals.
A group of foreigners even sang ‘No Women No Cry’ at the site, while others left a piece of wood with the inscription ‘Awareness’ at the entrance of the pathway that leads to the murder spot.
Police had not allowed visitors to tamper with the crime site, since investigations were still in progress, but had allowed foreigners to assemble and pay homage to the murdered victim near the crime site. According to media reports, the ‘GoFundMe’ fund, which has been set up by friends to support the family in the repatriation and funeral expenses, has collected more than 30,000 Euros, since it was set up on Wednesday.
