The Macazana gram sabha on Sunday gave its nod to the panchayat’s door-to-door waste collection plan. It also approved the budget estimates for the 2019-20 financial year.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Agnelo D’Costa also deliberated on the mobile tower issue and resolved to lead a delegation to the Bishop’s Palace on the issue.
The Sarpanch informed the gram sabha that the panchayat would initiate door-to-door waste collection around mid-February by collecting dry waste from the households. The door-to-door collection will be done twice a month and the collected dry waste will be handed over to the Solid Waste Management Corporation for disposal.
Meanwhile, the panchayat has prepared its budget pegged at Rs 48.56 lakh, with stress on garbage collection. It has allocated around Rs 1.5 lakh for solid waste management in the village, keeping in mind the door-to-door waste collection to be launched in the village, beginning from this month.
On the mobile tower, the sarpanch informed the gram sabha about the decision taken by the Church authorities refusing to grant permission to install the mobile tower in the Macazana Church property. Though the panchayat has received three applications from local owners to install the tower in their property, members favoured the installation of the tower only in the Church property.
In a bid to work out a solution, the gram sabha on Sunday constituted a 10-member core committee, which along with the panchayat body will call on the Archbishop to grant permission for the mobile tower. The sarpanch said that a representative of Jio, who was invited by the panchayat to give a presentation to the members, has given his nod for the site inside the Church property for the installation of the mobile tower.
