Not gone against mandate, no question of quitting: Vijai

With the State heading for bye-polls for at least two seats, Valpoi and one to accommodate Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Goa Forward Party mentor Vijai Sardesai has firmly ruled out the possibility of resigning from his seat to seek a fresh mandate from the people of Fatorda for supporting the BJP in forming the new government.

As a swanky vehicle with a red beacon brought the Fatorda MLA to the commercial capital “ the first time since he was sworn in as a minister three days ago “ Vijai ruled out the possibility of any bye-election for the Fatorda seat along with Valpoi and a constituency to accommodate Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. “Where’s the question of resigning and seeking fresh mandate when the people of Fatorda have given me a clear mandate to represent them for five years,” Vijai demanded to know.
He pointed out that he has not gone against the mandate of the people of Fatorda, saying that he has not joined the BJP, but has only extended support to Manohar Parrikar to lead the coalition government. “I have not joined the BJP and hence I have not gone against the mandate given by the people of Fatorda. The Goa Forward Party Legislators have only supported the government and governance will be carried out as per a Common Minimum Programme (CMP). The Common Minimum programme will be the guiding principle in the governance of the State,” he said.
There were demands made in certain quarters that the Fatorda MLA should resign his seat on moral grounds and go back to the people seeking a mandate to support the BJP-led government headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
