No-trust motion moved against SMC chief, deputy

BICHOLIM

In yet another attempt to regain control of the Sankhali Municipal Council (SMC), six BJP-backed councillors have moved a no-confidence motion against SMC Chairperson Raya Parsekar and Deputy Chairperson Rajesh Sawal.

Even though the BJP-backed councillors are in minority at the 13-member SMC, which is controlled by the Congress-backed ‘Together for Sankhali’ group, two councillors from the Dharmesh Saglani-led group have been issued a notice of disqualification and the matter is likely to be decided sometime soon.

The councillors Yashwant Madkar, Shubada Saveikar, Rashmi Desai, Bramha Desai, Anand Kanekar and Dayanand Doryekar have moved the no-confidence motion and while the motion against SMC Deputy Chairperson Rajesh Sawal will come up for discussion on August 6, the motion against SMC Chairperson Raya Parsekar will come up for discussion on August 7.

The BJP has made several attempts to regain control of the SMC, which forms part of the Sankhali constituency represented by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
