Close on the heels of locals strongly objecting to plans by the education department to shift the Government Primary School (GPS) at Barazan to Khadki-Khotoda in Sattari, locals in Advoi-Sattari have opposed plans to shift their GPS to Dongarwada Vante in Bhironda.
This issue was discussed at the PTA meeting and the parents decided to oppose attempts to merge the Advoi GPS to Bhironda and a memorandum will be submitted to the education department in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, PTA President Sumeedha Desai said the Advoi GPS has been doing well since the past several years and 21 students are presently in the school.
“The government has announced plans to relocate schools which have lower than 15 students but the Advoi GPS student strength is 21,” said Desai.
“Besides, the distance between Advai and Dongarwada Vante is about 5 kms away and this could cause problems to parents and children. Hence, the Advoi GPS should not be relocated,” said Desai.
Later speaking to reporters, the parents said they would hand over a memorandum to education officials in the next few days.
