About 2300 Anganwadi teachers across the State will benefit from five additional years of service, with Women and Child Development Minister Vishwajit Rane stating that the retirement age for Anganwadi teachers would be raised from 60 to 65 years.
“A proposal to this effect will be finalized within a few days and it has been sent to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for sanction,” said Rane.
He was speaking at a gathering to inaugurate an Anganwadi at Pal-Morlem in Sattari on Saturday. Others present at the function included ZP member Fati Gaonkar, Director of Women and Child Development Deepak Desai, Deputy Director Deepali Naik, Morlem Sarpanch Shubada Gawas, Thane Sarpanch Sarita Gaonkar, Khotoda Sarpanch Omprakash Barve and other panch members.
“Following demands from the Anganwadi teachers, a proposal to increase the retirement age was pending since the last few years.”
“Taking serious note of their demands, the proposal
was sent it to the chief minister for sanction and hopefully, it will get approved within a few days.”
“Anganwadi teachers from across the State will benefit with this new decision. Anganwadi teachers play a key role in the allround development of children, which is a basic foundation in the education sector,” the minister said.
Incidentally, Maharashtra and Karnataka had already increased the retirement age of their Anganwadi teachers to 65 years, prompting the Anganwadi teachers in Goa to push for a similar demand.
Rane also informed that new education buildings in the State will be constructed with e-learning facilities, to enable teachers impart education to children with new techniques.
Stating that children from rural areas would also benefit with e-learning techniques to be implemented in due course, Rane said there would be no discrimination regarding new facilities in rural and urban areas. He also advised parents to send their children to state-run Anganwadis.
