The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has reverted back its decision to allow schools to set up their own papers for their Grade 9 students, for the upcoming Semester II examination, which is set to commence from March 4, 2026, citing administrative reasons. As such, the Board will continue to draft papers for the semester and will also evaluate the marking scheme post examination.

The Board, through a communication to schools in December, last year, had said that the Question paper for the Semester II examination for Grade 9 is to be set by the respective schools for their students as per the blueprint available on the official website of the Board under study material.

However, in a fresh directive, it has said that the decision has been kept in abeyance on administrative grounds. “It is informed that the board has now decided to keep the decision in abeyance regarding setting of question papers of Class IX, terminal II examination, March 2026, by the schools, on administrative grounds. In view of the above, a detailed schedule of distribution of question papers in respect of all languages, mathematics, science and social science subjects will be communicated to all schools very shortly,” the circular stated.

This year marks the second year of implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for Grade 9. The Board had set question papers for both semesters last academic year.

The Board, however, clarified that the schools will have to set the question papers in all skill and school assessment subjects. The examination ends on March 12.

The Board has said that it is mandatory for the head of institution to conduct the examination in the hall where CCTV is installed and operational.
