Goa’s seventh and last active case of Covid-19 so far has tested negative on Sunday and has been shifted to a government-run quarantine centre at Candolim for a period of seven days for observation. With the seventh patient being cured, Goa’s active cases have come down to zero.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has sought to applaud the efforts of the medical frontline workers and the entire health department team that has been working relentlessly to ensure the wellbeing of all the seven persons who have so far tested positive for the coronavirus in Goa. Two of the total seven patients are presently under home quarantine for seven days.
However, the Chief Minister has cautioned against premature celebrations. “Cases are zero doesn’t mean we should all be relaxed and roam outside. Lockdown will continue till May 3. Borders will remain sealed till May 3. Even if a Goan enters through state borders, they will continue to be quarantined at a government facility for the stipulated period. We need to ensure our safety,” he stated while briefing the media.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane also suggested that the development be handled with caution. “While we have good news of zero Covid-19 cases in Goa, it is too early to tag our state as a “green zone”. It’s time to intensify the testing facilities. We are now drawing up protocols for random testing- testing of migrant workers, industrial workers, etc.,” Rane tweeted.
The Health Department has further disclosed its plans to intensify testing by setting up smart testing kiosks at borders, airports, Mormugao Port Trust and several other locations that would be best suited for broadening our scope of testing.
